Calyx Krater

$300.00

The Krater is a family of vessels whose purpose is to mix wine with water to dilute it to an appropriate drinking strength. The Calyx Krater gets its name from its shape, resembling the calyx of a flower, with flowing curves and low handles that flare out from the base.

This particular Krater was turned from an especially ragged piece of Apple wood which required a delicate hand while turning but yielded perhaps the most antiquated piece of the whole collection.

Height: 8.5”
Diameter: 6.5”
Diameter with handles: 10”

The timber this vessel is crafted from is sustainably sourced and selected from Spokane, WA. Turned and carved from Apple wood and treated with a combination of red wine pigmentation, iron acetate, and fire before being finished with Tried & True varnish oil. Stitched with waxed cotton thread.he most he wh
