Pyxis Cup

$75.00

The Pyxis is typically a lidded cylindrical box, but its shape, size, and general aesthetic lended itself well to a cup-like form. Unlike most Grecian pottery made from terracotta, the Pyxis is a wooden vessel made from the Boxwood (puksos) tree.

This shape has become a platform for experimenting with finish as it is relatively simple to turn and carve and can go through several iterations of finish. It is the so called guinea pig!

Height: 4”
Diameter: 5”
Diameter with handles: 5.5”

The timber this vessel is crafted from is sustainably sourced and selected from Spokane, WA. Turned and carved from Apple wood and treated with a combination of red wine pigmentation, iron acetate, and fire before being finished with Tried & True varnish oil. Stitched with waxed cotton thread.urn a
